The Brisbane Social Justice Statement Launch last night was a vibrant gathering of around 60 people, who are committed to serving people experiencing life on the margins. We were blessed by the moving stories and messages shared by Fr Gregory Jacobs as he launched the Statement and Roby Curtis, the Director of Emmanuel City Mission, who reflected on the document by powerfully describing his experiences and calling us to serve with courage and love.
The night was also an important opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the many people who have supported the Brisbane Catholic Justice and Peace Commission in our 40th year.
Our hope is that the Statement, “Signs of Hope on the Edge” from the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference will encourage all to serve by noticing and truly knowing those who are experiencing homelessness and mental ill health.
We encourage all communities and parishes to share and discuss the Social Justice Statement on Social Justice Sunday, 31st August.
