Earth Day is celebrated every year as a day of action to raise awareness of environmental challenges and issues that negatively impact our planet.
It is celebrated annually on the 22nd April. The Earth Day theme for 2024 is ‘Planet vs. Plastics’.
The Earth Day Organisation has an unwavering commitment to stop plastics for the health of both humans and the planet. It is calling for a 60% reduction in plastic production by 2040, with the goal of building a plastic-free world for future generations. They aim to do this through: promoting awareness of the damage plastic causes to humans and the planet; phasing out single-use plastics by 2030; stopping fast fashion; and investing in innovations to provide a plastic-free world.

On this Earth Day, let’s honour our sacred duty as stewards of our planet. And as we anticipate Laudato Si Week 2024 in May, let’s embrace the interconnectedness of Mother Earth and stand in global solidarity to protect our common home. ![]()
Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart
Today, the global community celebrates “Earth Day,” an occasion prompting us to reflect on and actively demonstrate our care for our Earth.
As Daughters of Our Lady of the Scared Heart, the Promotion for the care of the earth and integrity of creation is at the heart of our charism and spirituality. In order to sincerely love our sisters and brothers we must revere and care for creation, since love must start with our neighbour in need, and it is the most vulnerable who are the most affected by changes in our climate.

Monday Morning Reflection for International Mother Earth Day
Source of all life,
God of the lush forests,
God of the clean air,
God of every living creature,
open our eyes, minds and hearts
to see that we are all connected,
all parts of the same network of life:
what hurts and pollutes one,
hurts and pollutes the other.
Help us to listen to you
and repent of our destructive ways
so that your wonderful diverse planet
can breathe again and live
and we and our children with it.
Amen

Window on Creation
We celebrate Earth Day with the launch of Window on Creation, a new e-book resource by Carmel Jones rsj.
This e-book has been created as an invitation to all who care about the future. The reader is invited to look at our world, as if out a window, with St Francis of Assisi, Pope Francis, and Father Julian Tenison Woods.
Window on Creation offers an opportunity to explore how to make a difference, right where we are. Its focus is mainly on Fr Julian who, as a well-respected scientist, contributed greatly to Australian natural history.
We invite you to view and learn more about Window on Creation here: www.sosj.org.au/window-on-creation
